The music program offers the opportunity to perceive, perform, and respond to music. Students learn the characteristics of music, skills for performance, ability to respond to sound, and competence in reading and notating musical symbols. Students develop an appreciation of music as an essential aspect of history and culture. This is accomplished through a variety of musical styles and genres, a perspective of music's role throughout history, and the relationship of music to the fine arts and other curriculum disciplines. Through improvisation, students learn to organize musical ideas and sounds. They develop an ability to critically evaluate musical performances and compositions.
The music program at Holy Trinity far exceeds the guidelines set forth by the Maryland Department of Education. Any student who experiences the full spectrum of the music program from preschool through eighth grade can expect to be prepared to choose music as a vocation or avocation. Middle School students have the option to participate in one or more of the following bands: Cadet Band Concert Band Symphonic Band Wind Ensemble Jazz Band
2009-2010 highlights: The Wind Ensemble received a Superior rating at the Dixie Classic Festival. In addition, the percussion section was honored with Best Percussion award. Tim Hanson, who played a solo piece on the trumpet during the performance, was singled out by the judges for his remarkable talent.
