The mathematics program emphasizes the development of problem solving techniques, as well as the mastery of basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. Pre-algebra, algebraic concepts, and algebra I are taught to 7th and 8th graders. Math manipulatives are used throughout the curriculum, especially in the lower grades, by individuals or in groups, to encourage problem-solving skills. The emphasis in mathematics is always on understanding basic concepts first and then the progress to abstract thinking skills. Through the Holy Trinity program, students gain a strong, comfortable ease with basic mathematical skills and cultivate the confidence to apply those skills in high school and beyond the classroom.
2008-2009 highlights: Holy Trinity mathletes participated in the Math Counts program. They competed in the Potomac Chapter Math Counts competition held at the University of Maryland. |
