- Students
entering first grade for the
2008-2009 school year MUST be 6 years old on or before September

All testing/screening is during the school day. The testing/screening schedule for students entering the following September is as follows:
- Preschool: beginning in January, applicant and one parent attend scheduled orientation.
- Kindergarten: individual screening beginning in January.
- First Grade: March, April, May by grade level as openings become available.
- Grades Two through Eight: March, April, May by grade level as openings become available.
Applicants must bring the following to testing/screening:
- birth certificate
- recent photograph
- progress reports/report cards
At all grades, a teacher recommendation form must be completed by the applicant's current teachers. This form is mailed to parents to give to the teacher after the appointment is made for testing/screening. A request for official transcripts will be sent with the recommendation form for grades 2-8.
A priority list for enrolling students has been developed by the Holy Trinity Board of Governors. Priority consideration is given as follows:
- members of Holy Trinity parish
- siblings of children enrolled or previously enrolled
- children of current faculty
- children of alumni
- members of other Episcopal parishes
- all others
At grade levels where there have been many more applications than openings, applications are prioritized before screening/testing.
Please note that we do not share data about the number of students in Wait Pool status or the order of preference since this information can change significantly from day to day.
Each applicant is screened individually for placement by either the Director of Admissions or Kindergarten teacher. Through participation in a variety of age-appropriate activities, academic and developmental readiness is examined. The screenings begin in January according to priority, and continue until all spaces are filled. Sixty students are the maximum accepted. A committee comprised of the Head of School, Division Head of Preschool/Kindergarten, Director of Admissions, and kindergarten teachers determine the admission decision. If the screening indicates that an applicant needs time for developmental growth and readiness, the application may be held for re-screening the following year.
As space becomes available, small groups of applicants are invited to a testing session. These sessions are two hours in length and are scheduled during a school morning. Through participation in a variety of age-appropriate activities, academic and developmental readiness are examined. A committee comprised of the Head of School, Division Head of Lower School, Director of Admissions, kindergarten teachers, and first grade teachers are involved in the admission decision. The primary concern in accepting an applicant is that he/she is developmentally ready to handle the expectations of our structured first grade. If there are a number of applicants, the priority list will be used in inviting applicants to the session.
Testing of students entering grades two through eight takes place by grade during a school morning. The session takes approximately two hours. Applicants are evaluated with the appropriate level sub tests of the Metropolitan Achievement Test and a writing exercise. The test results must be at an average or above average level in order for the applicant to be considered.
Applicants who score at an acceptable level are asked to spend a day at Holy Trinity in a class at their present grade level. Although a visitor, the applicant is expected to work and participate with the rest of the class. Along with the testing and school visit, copies of the applicant's school records/transcripts and a recommendation by the applicant's current teachers must be submitted before a final decision is made. Parents will be notified in writing as soon as the decision is made. The Head of School, Division Head of Middle School, Director of Admissions, and the classroom teachers are involved in the decision process. |
